Caught up in the desire for success or the fear of failure?

A story by our founder

When I first entered the media industry, I was filled with excitement and anticipation. I had always dreamt of being a part of this world, of having my voice heard, my face is seen, and my talent appreciated. I was eager to prove myself and make a name for myself in this highly competitive and glamorous industry. I started trying in my own ways, started meeting new people, making new friends and doing what all I could do to get there.

However, as I soon discovered, this industry can be unforgiving and unpredictable. I found myself constantly caught up in the desire for success and the fear of failure. Every audition, every meeting, and every opportunity felt like a do-or-die moment. I became consumed with thoughts of what I should do to succeed and how I could avoid failure. The pressure was immense, and I felt like I was constantly walking on a tightrope. Many times I started feeling I was not on the right way.

Over the years, this obsession with success and fear of failure took a toll on me emotionally. I began to doubt myself, my abilities, and my worth as a person. Every rejection felt like a personal failure, and every success felt like it was never enough. I was always striving for more, always chasing the next big thing, and never stopping to enjoy the moment or appreciate how far I had come.

It wasn't until I hit rock bottom during the Covid times that I realized the toll that this obsession with success and fear of failure had taken on me. I was exhausted, burnt out, and unhappy. It was then that I realized that I needed to change my perspective. I needed to stop focusing solely on the outcome and start trusting the process. I needed to learn to take success and failure with a smile, to define success and failure on my own terms, and to appreciate the journey rather than just the destination.

And so, I started to focus on the process, on the journey, on the small victories along the way. I learned to trust myself and my abilities, to be resilient in the face of setbacks and rejections, and to celebrate every success, no matter how small. It wasn't easy, and it took time, but eventually, I found a sense of peace and fulfilment that I had never experienced before. I started loving what I do much more than before.

Rejection and acceptance are also common experiences in the industry, particularly for creators, artists and performers. Learning to take success and failure with a smile in the media and entertainment industry can be a challenging task, as the industry is known for its competitive and unpredictable nature. However, trusting in the process is an essential aspect of navigating this industry. Trusting the process means having faith in oneself and one's abilities, being open to learning and growing, and being resilient in the face of setbacks and rejections. By defining success and failure on our own terms and focusing on the process, we can navigate the industry with more ease and resilience. The process involves consistent effort, hard work, and a willingness to learn from both successes and failures.

Looking back on my journey, I realized that the desire for success and the fear of failure are natural feelings that we all experience. But it's important to remember that they don't define us. What defines us is how we respond to these feelings and how we choose to navigate the journey. And for me, learning to take success and failure with a smile and trusting the process was the most important lesson I learned in my journey in the media industry.
